Rhinoplasty, or a nose job, is the procedure by which the nose is reshaped — either for cosmetic reasons or following injury. Rhinoplasty is a rather common surgical procedure used to correct the shape of the nose and can also address breathing issues. Governed by your preferences and proportions, we can help give you the nose that best suits you.

You may benefit from nose surgery if:

  • You are unhappy with the size and shape of your nose.
  • You have breathing issues that can be corrected with nasal surgery.
  • You have suffered an injury or accident to your nose, which requires internal or external revision.

This is a relatively new technique used to resurface and smooth facial skin. It is based on completely different principles to those of traditional dermabrasion and has a much safer profile.

The main indications for this therapy are:

  • Environmentally damaged skin and sunspots
  • Age spots and fine wrinkles associated with ageing
  • Acne with blackheads, whiteheads, blemishes
  • Scarring and acne scarring

At Shire Cosmetic Medicine the treatment is carried out by staff specialising in facial care. A course of 6-12 treatments are usually necessary depending on the level of treatment required. Results are usually evident by the third treatment and improve steadily with subsequent treatments, which are usually due at two weekly intervals, although this can be varied according to individual needs.

Laser Hair Removal

Medical laser hair removal is the destruction of hair follicles utilising laser energy to treat large areas quickly unlike ‘follicle by follicle’ treatments such as electrolysis.

The laser is pulsed for only a fraction of a second (usually 30 milliseconds). The duration of each pulse is just long enough to damage the follicle, whilst the lasers unique contact-cooling handpiece helps protect the skin with conductive cooling during the energy delivery to the follicle.

At Shire Cosmetic Medicine we also use a Zimmer Cryo 5 Cooler to aid in the cooling and safety of the skin.

Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy

Unsightly leg veins are more common as we age. Heredity is the primary contributing cause of varicose veins, affecting 30% of men and women. Genetic factors are a primary cause — being born with “weak” veins or valves or faulty valves are a leading cause.

We specialise in Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy which involves the injection of a sclerosant substance into the vein under ultrasound guidance.

The treatment is relatively pain-free, and no anaesthetic is used. Returning to regular duties immediately after treatment is encouraged. As with all treatments, there is a healing period and this time relies heavily on the state of the veins to start with — the bigger the varicose vein, the longer the healing period.
