What are Facial Fillers?
Facial fillers are injectable substances which when injected into or below the skin add volume to the area and fill out lines. Numerous filler substances have been developed around the world. At Shire Cosmetic Medicine we have a range of fillers available which are either temporary or semi permanent.
What the Treatment involves
Facial fillers are injectables. Therefore, an anaesthetic agent in injectable form or topical cream is applied to the area before treatment. Should a topical cream be used, it needs to be applied for approximately one hour before treatment with plastic occlusion (cling wrap). Many of the modern facial fillers are premixed with local anaesthetic agents to help reduce discomfort associated with the injections.
The wrinkles and hollows are marked and filled at different depths depending on the individual needs of the patient. There is minimal swelling but occasionally a small needle mark or bruise can occur. These can be covered with makeup.
How Long Does it Last?
Most facial fillers last between 6 and 18 months depending on the quantity of filler used, the quality of the skin and life style.
